If I think I need counselling, what do I do next?

If you think you would benefit from counselling, the first step is to get in touch, either by phone or by email. I will respond quickly and will usually arrange to have a five minute conversation with you on the phone before inviting you to come to Waterloo counselling

Arranging a first session

After we have spoken on the phone, you may decide you want to come for counselling.

We arrange a first session together and think about why you want to come to counselling and whether the process will be helpful to you.

This first session is for you to decide whether you want to come to counselling with me. We also consider whether time-limited or ongoing counselling would be better for you, depending on what is affordable, what your needs are and what other commitments you have.

How to find me

Waterloo counselling is easily accessible via tube and bus routes. It is a ten-minute walk from Elephant or Castle and Waterloo tube stations and five minutes from Lambeth North. The address is:

Office 602 - Waterloo counselling
50 Westminster Bridge Road
London
SE1 7QY

When you enter the courtyard. Walk to the main glass door and buzz waterloo counselling to be let in. I will show you to my office on our first meeting.

Disability access

There is disability access to the space.

My fees

I charge £80 for the initial assessment session which usually last just over an hour, and £75 per session for time-limited and ongoing work. Every session is 50 minutes long. I charge for missed sessions. Please note that EMDR sessions are longer than 50-minutes and may be charged at a different rate.

I want to ensure counselling is available to a range of people and I offer reduced fees to people on a low wage, not in work or studying. If you are not on a low wage but are still worried about whether you can afford counselling, we think together about setting a limited amount of sessions that feels affordable but also effective in terms of enabling change.

Ethical bodies

I am a registered member of BACP and an accredited member of UKCP. I adhere to their ethical code of conduct. I am a member of the EMDR association.

Confidentiality

All contact with me is confidential. As a psychodynamic practitioner, I am in supervision and share information with my supervisor. Information is not shared with anyone else. The only exception is if I believe you are at serious risk either to yourself or to others.
